Messaging
Hi, I am not too sure why you have messaging between students, this encourages cheating on the quiz and discourages them to do their work. I am happy you have the option to turn this off but when I do it also turns off the ability for the student to message me "the trainer". Since I have turned this function off I can no longer see who is online.
Can you please make an option that the student can message the trainer for support and the trainer can see who is online whilst keeping the chat between learners disabled.
This would be a great advantage. Thanks

We do online learning, not online assessment all the time, we do discussion, it is good if all student can see and get involved in the the discussion while online. Q&A sessions is also more effective if all the students can see it while they are online. Hope openlearning can develop features so educator can message the students by group

However, just to share with others who may have this same query, we are sharing it here as well.
While you can't disable the chat feature for a user completely (they have to do it from their account settings page), you can stop the chat box from appearing within your courses.
To disable it in your course, please head over to Course Setup > Advanced and scroll down to the Miscellaneous section. Next, untick the checkbox - "Allow students in this course to chat to each other over instant messaging".
