How do I copy or add an existing page to my module?

OpenLearning has recently made it even easier to reuse existing pages within your course to help you save time; by enabling the ability to add, move, or duplicate pages through the Copying feature.

The two choices you can now choose from are:

Add: Links a reference to the page in your current module. Changes to the page will reflect across all modules that it is added to; and,

Copy: Creates a duplicate page, which can then be added to your current module and edited independently. Pages not in any module cannot be copied.

Go to Course Setup > Content.

(Make sure your course has at least one module added. If not, type a module name in the Add a new module text field at the bottom of the page and hit enter.)

In the module of your choice, click on the Browse templates link inside the Add a page tile.

Step 3

A new pop up window will appear. This window has three tabs on the left-hand side.

Templates: Choose an existing template to structure your new page around.

Existing Pages: Choose from existing pages you have already created in order to add one to your module.

Blank Page: Create a blank new page with no existing material or template.

Be sure to select the Existing pages tab.

Choose an existing page from the default list. Alternatively, use the search box at the top of the content area to search by page name, or the adjacent dropdown to filter by module.

Note:

Existing pages are listed alphabetically, with the orphan ones (pages not in any module) at the top of the list.

Once you’ve identified the right page, click Add to link it to your module. This will also take you back to the Course Setup > Content base screen.

Once you've identified the right page, click Copy to duplicate the existing page to your module (rather than adding or linking it)

Copying will allow you to later edit this page without affecting the original page.

Edit the details of the new copy. These include:

  • Page name
  • Page tags
  • Page path

Click Copy and add to add the new page copy to your module. This will also take you back to the Course Setup > Content base screen.

  • If a page is not in any module, there will be only the "Add" button.
  • If a page is in the current module, there will be only the "Copy" button.
  • If a page is in another module but not the current one, there will be both the "Add" and "Copy" buttons.
