How do I copy a page in a course? How do I add a page to a module?

This article will teach you how to:

  • add a page to a module
  • copy/create a duplicate of a page in a course

If you'd like to just move a page from one module to another, please refer to How do I move a page from one module to another?

What's the difference between copying and adding a page?

Add: Links a reference to the page in your current module. Changes to the page will reflect across all modules that it is added to. You would use this option when you have a page isn't in any module yet, or you want the same page to be added to multiple modules.

Copy: Creates a duplicate page, which can then be added to your current module and edited independently.

What's the difference between copying and adding a page?

Step 1

Go to Course setup > Content and scroll to the module of your choice.

Step 2

Click on the Browse templates link.

Step 3

A new pop-up window appears. It has three tabs on the left-hand side.

Templates: Choose an existing template to structure your new page around.

Existing Pages: Choose from existing pages you have already created in order to add one to your module.

Blank Page: Create a blank new page with no existing material or template.

Step 4

Select the Existing pages tab.

You will see a list of your course pages here. You may notice that some pages have Add and Copy buttons, some have one, some have none. Why is that?

  • If a page is not in any module within the current module set, there will only be the Add button.
  • If a page is in the current module, there will only be the Copy button.
  • If a page is in another module but not the current one, there will be both the Add and Copy buttons.
  • If a page doesn't have any buttons, it is actually a subpage, and cannot be added to a module. (What are subpages?)

Step 5

Find the page you want to add or copy from the list.

Alternatively, use the search box at the top of the content area to search by page name, or the adjacent dropdown to filter pages by module.

Step 6a - adding the page

Choose the page you want to add to the current module and click on Add.

The page will now be added to the module. If necessary, you can then click&drag to change the page order.

Step 6b - copying / duplicating a page

However, if you'd like to copy  a page, click the Copy button to get this prompt:

You may change the following settings:

Page name: Enter a name for your new (duplicate) page. The name can be changed later.

Page tags: Add tags and outcome tags for the page. (optional)

Page path:  Use the suggested page path or create your own. The page path cannot be changed later.

When done, click Copy and add.
