Notifications not displaying consistently in Edge and Google Chrome

The notification window when you first log into the course normally shows a small number in a pink bubble. This doesn't show consistently (doesn't show up at all) when using Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome browsers on a Windows PC. I then miss notifications.
