Thumnails don't work

When trying to add an image to a thumbnail the programme gets stuck. All I see is the rotating circle that you have to wait. Anyone else have this issue?

Hi Jochem! Could you send the link to your course so we can have a closer look? Also, how big are your images?

      Alenka Prezelj https://www.openlearning.com/courses/capto-basic-use/HomePage

The course is not online yet. Will you still eb able to look at it.

Also the landing page displays things in another fashion as it should. There is a "What will you learn" title and right after that comes the "Course Outcome" title. The tekst that should be displayed under "What you will learn" is displayed under "Course Outcome". While under Course Outcome only the bullets should appear. So there is another bug.

Jochem Burghouts Hi! I see that you were able to upload the thumbnail on the welcome page, but it doesn't look right because it's not the right size. The size should be 480*300 pixels. I uploaded a test thumbnail on your The Capto sensor page.

Jochem Burghouts Not sure I understand what you mean about the Course outcomes and What you will learn. Could you explain with a screenshot?

Alenka Prezelj Please check the recording. Thanks. Any suggestions on how to make existing images fit into a 480x300 pixels size. are there any other measurements that you have to enter exactly to make an image fit. i am used to programs where this is done automatically or where you get options to rescale. This is all very user unfriendly.

Alenka Prezelj Also the thumbnail that worked with the video is because you get an option in the Video setup to add a thumbnail. As you will see in the video using the thumbnail button does not work.

Jochem Burghouts Hi Jochem! I understand the issue with images not rescaling, I'm sure this is a feature that we will have in the future as well. We are still very new. :)

Regarding your logos, I'm afraid they are not small as you say in the video. The image size of the first one you show is actually 5441*2274. Could you try to resize it to 480*300? If you're not able to, I can try for you, just post the image here or you can also send us an e-mail to support@openlearning.com .

I will get back to you about the other issue.

Alenka Prezelj This fits the criteria and is only 27kb. So how can it be that it still does not work. Please, please, please resolve this issue.....

Jochem Burghouts Strangely, it works for me. Until we figure out why this is happening for you, feel free to send me the thumbnails and I can upload them for you.

Here are other image dimensions you might need:

      Course Thumbnails: 600px x 400px

      Course Banner: 2340px x 340px

Course Promo Images (on the course landing page): 1200px x 800px

      Page Thumbnails: 480px x 300px

Video thumbnail (can be used in video widget if the original cover image is low quality): 1280 x 720 px

Page banner (on top of each page): 1400 x 425 px

Alenka Prezelj Hi Alenka, if you can upload the thumbnails for me that would be great. The current thumbnails can be removed. The names of the thumbnails match the titles of the pages, so should be easy to figure out which thumbnail goes where.

Alenka Prezelj Here is another one for the survey. I am not sure if you can see the names of the images. They do not display in this browser....

    Regarding the landing page:

    Just to clarify:

To edit the landing page you can go to Course setup > General and scroll down to Course Landing Page. This is the page that unenrolled users land to when they point their browsers to your course's URL.

The course's homepage is the page that enrolled users land to when they point their browsers to your courses URL. This page (which you can find on your left-side menu navigation) is edited like any other page (View / Edit buttons on top)

As you have noticed, the course objective and outcomes are automatically displayed on the landing page, along with the information you provide in Course setup > General > Course Landing Page.

However, I think you have a very good point about placing the line Getting to know.... above the "Course outcomes". Let me have a chat with our team and get back to you on this. Thank you!

Alenka Prezelj Ok, thank you for your reply. I understand the difference between landing and home page. It is just that the place where to find it is not very intuitive.

Would be good if Open Learning will improve a lot in the future. It has potential, but still a lot to work on.

Hope you can fix the thumbnail issue, because it is driving me crazy, I hate it when software doesn't work the way it is supposed to.

I will finish the course and then send you the files for the thumbnails.

What is an easy way to make images in the correct sizes. And again… why is this so strict? How hard can it be to resize images into the given space?
