Getting a "try again" message when saving

I have heard from a few people taking our course that when they go to submit their responses they are getting a "try again" message. I am unsure if their answers are saving and it is causing frustration on the part of the students. Can you help please?

Erin Pote Hi Erin! I see that you used Short answer widget to create questions. This is actually not the right widget for this kind of task. You would use Short answer widget when you would ask questions like "What is the capital of Canada?" where only one answer is right. (well actually, you can set up the widget to recognize a few answers as correct, but the answer(s) must be specific.)

In your case, you should use Post text widget. I've set one up for you on this page:

      https://www.openlearning.com/courses/let-s-talk-meaningful-public-engagement/question_1

As you can see, a gallery of answers is also included. If you don't want the answers to be be seen to everyone in the course, you can change the settings in the widget's settings.

Alternatively, you could also ask students to reply in the comment section. To make commenting obligatory, you go to page Settings (top right on the course page) > Community.

I hope this helps! If you have any further questions, I'm hapy to help!

This was super helpful and the issue is fixed. Thank you! I do have one more question. How can I download the students answers? Is that possible? Or download the answers per question so I can review? Thanks again!

Erin Pote In general, this depends on what widget did you use. If you used Post text (such as on https://www.openlearning.com/courses/let-s-talk-meaningful-public-engagement/question_1) you could export the posts. Go to Course setup > Exports, choose posts, the right page and class. It might be worth naming your pages differently - you seem to have a lot of "Question 1" pages. :)

      Hope this helps!
