How do I use the Quiz Section?

A quiz section is a container that hosts multiple quiz and content widgets. At the end of a quiz section, a submit functionality will be added automatically.

A quiz section can include:

  1. All quiz widgets:
    • Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ)

    • Short Answer.

    • Categorise.

    • Match it.

    • Crossword.

    • Fill in the blanks.

  2. Content widgets such as:
    • Text.

    • Video.

    • Audio.

    • Image.

You won't be able to add Posting widgets (post text, image, and file) into a quiz section due to the difference in completion settings. Posting widgets can live in a content section, along with other content widgets such as text, video, audio and image.

Steps to access the Quiz Section.

Go to the page in your course where you'd like to add this widget.

Select Edit mode.

In the lefthand widget menu, choose Quiz.

To add a quiz section, add one or more of the new quiz widgets to the page.

As you drag the quiz widget onto the page, the text “Insert quiz widget and create a new quiz section” will appear. As soon as you drop the quiz widget on the block page, the quiz section will be created.

Please note that once the quiz section is created, content sections will be created as well and other content widgets will be included in the content section.

After adding the Quiz Section to your page, you can set it up by following the instructions below:

Click on the Settings button next to the Quiz section header.

Edit the Quiz Section settings:

Quiz name: You can enter the name of the quiz section here.

Randomise the order of questions — each learner will see a different order: Ticking this box will randomise the order of the questions for each learner.

Limit the number of attempts: Ticking this box will display an input field where you can set the number of attempts allowed for each student to submit the answer. Untick this box if you allow an unlimited number of attempts for this quiz.

Show total score: Ticking this box will show the result of whether the answer is correct or incorrect for each question. It will also show the total score result next to the submit answers button.

Unticking this box, on the other hand, will not show the result and the message "Your submission has been received" will appear next to the submit answers button to indicate that the answers have been successfully submitted.

Show a message: Ticking this box will display an input field where you can set a custom message to be displayed when the learner clicks on the submit answers button.

Quiz completed button (customise text): You can use this field to customise the submit button name. The default name is Submit answers.

Completion tracking: You can also set the completion tracking in the Quiz Section. The options are:

  • No completion tracking: The widgets within the quiz section will not be counted towards completion.
  • Completed when all questions have been attempted:  The widgets within the quiz section will be counted as completed as soon as the learner completes them - regardless of whether the answer is right or wrong.
  • Completed when all answers are correct: The widgets within the quiz section will be counted as completed as soon as the learner provides the correct answer.

Once the settings are done, click on the Save button to apply the changes.

I am trying to replicate the .gif on this screen, but the "Insert quiz widget and create a new quiz section" text never pops up. Is there any other way to add a quiz section?
