How can I display a course in right-to-left format?

Right-to-left (RTL) script is writing that begins in the top right of a page and continues to the left. Arabic, Urdu and Hebrew are some common RTL writing systems.

Learners wishing to take courses in RTL  languages will now experience more learning in their desired language and course navigation that is consistent with RTL languages. Course creators and learners can also input more RTL text throughout the platform.

To set up RTL format in your course:

Step 1

Go to Course Setup > Advanced and scroll down to the section titled Miscellaneous

Step 2

The setting for RTL is titled Text direction. Tick that box to enable RTL format.

What types of changes can I expect from this new format?

Course Navigation Bar

While the course navigation bar will remain on the left, all titles that course creators choose to input in RTL languages will be right-aligned.

RTL is automatic in the navigation menu - to change any menu titles, go to Course Setup > Appearance.

Module Set Navigation

When opening any module set navigation, the menu view is right to left oriented. Module titles, module descriptions, and page titles will support RTL languages. The ordering of pages in a module menu also appears right to left.

RTL is automatic in the navigation menu - Course creators can change module titles, module descriptions and page titles in Course Setup > Content.

This occurs when course creators tick the Text Direction box.

Comments

The comments section at the end of every page in a course is now oriented from right to left, including text input and reply comments, to support learner conversations in RTL languages.

Posting a Comment

Learners posting a comment will see a comment field that is right to left oriented. Course creators can input RTL text in the comment headers and comment placeholder fields to provide guidance for learner conversations in the desired language.

Course creators can find comment settings in the Settings > Community tab found in the upper right corner of a page.

Replying to Comments

When a learners replies to a comment their response will be indented from the right. They’ll also find more important information, like their name and profile image on the right with contextual information appearing on the left.

Learners can select reply on any comment.

Important note: RTL does NOT translate text from one language to another. All changes must be made manually by the course creator or admins.
