What is the Payment Location Verification?

The Payment Location Verification feature enables learners to claim residency in an eligible Australian state to access discounted course pricing. Eligibility is confirmed through a third-party verification tool, which validates the learner’s details. If the learner resides in one of the states designated by the course provider, they will be entitled to the discounted price.

How is the price affected when Payment Location Verification is enabled?

The pricing shown on the course tiles when hovering is determined by the learner’s browser IP. Learners using a VPN or located outside the eligible states will see the full base price, while those in eligible states will see the discounted price range.

Is Payment Location Verification enabled by default?

The Payment Location Verification feature is not enabled by default. To activate it, please send a request email to support@openlearning.com.

How to use the Payment Location Verification?

Step 1

Go to the Course Setup > Classes menu in the course where you would like to use the Payment Location Verification.

Step 2

Either create a new class or click Edit on the class where you want to set up the payment location verification.

Step 3

Set the enrolment type to Public and the enrolment cost to Paid.

Step 4

Under add-ons, select the option "Enable Data Zoo add-on for this class".

Step 5

Select the state from the dropdown menu, then set the discounted price in AUD. To add a discount for another state, click Add State-Specific Pricing.

Step 6

Click Save to apply the new changes.

How to verify whether a learner paid the discounted price and check their Payment Location Verification status?

To verify a learner’s payment and payment location status, go to Administer Learners > Learners > Learners in the class.

Check the Enrolment Cost column to see the amount paid, and scroll to the right to view the Verified? column for the payment location verification status.

Below is an explanation of the icons displayed in the Verified column.

• The full name and address match found in the database. 
• The learner got a discounted price if in the eligible states.
• The learner did not get a discount if they were not in the eligible states.

• The full name and address couldn’t be found in the database. 
• The learner had to fill in the self-declaration form
• The learner got a discounted price if they declared that they are a resident of the eligible states.
• The learner did not get a discount if they declared that they are not a resident of the eligible states.
• The learner has not been verified manually by the course provider staff yet

• The full name and address couldn’t be found in the database. 
• The learner had to fill in the self-declaration form.
• The learner got a discounted price if they declared they are a resident of the eligible states.
• The learner did not get a discount if they declared they are not residents of the eligible states
• The learner has been verified manually by the course provider staff.

Dropdown means that the course provider staff have the ability to change the verification status from verified to not verified and vice versa.

If the status is blank, it means that this user did not go through the location verification flow because the system detected that they were not in Australia, or they paid in a different currency, or they were manually enrolled.

Payment location verification flow for learners

This section explains the flow/steps taken from a learner's perspective going through the payment location verification to see the course pricing prior to enrolment.

Step 1

On the course landing page, click on the JOIN NOW button.

The pricing shown on this page will be based on your browser’s IP. If you have VPN or are not based in NSW, you will see the base(full) price.

Step 2

Sign up or Log in to your account.

Step 3

Fill in the location verification form that is capturing the information to be sent for verification and click confirm.

Note - Learners are required to enter their full name, residential address, and date of birth.

A predictive search is set up so that the learners can fill out their address information more quickly (this is restricted only to addresses in AU for now).

Step 4

Confirm your eligibility for a discounted price.

Step 5

For purchase information, either one of the scenarios below will take place: 

• If the full name and address return a match, you will be able to see the discounted price here.
• If the full name and address do not return a successful match, you will see the full price.

Step 6

Billing information. You can check a box to pre-fill the address fields with the ones captured in the location verification form.

Step 7

Fill in the payment information and click continue to next step. 

Step 8

The payment is being processed which should only take a few seconds.

Step 9

You will see a confirmation page that has:

• The course price.
• The discount (optional). 
• A button to go to the course.
