How do email and platform notifications work?
Notifications are used to let users know when activity has taken place in their OpenLearning communities. There are two different types of notifications: email and platform.
Email notifications are notices sent to the email address associated with the user's OpenLearning account.
Platform notifications will appear in the little bell icon next to your profile picture in the OpenLearning topbar.
Notifications will vary depending on your status in a course, ie: whether you are an Admin, Facilitator, or Learner. Notifications can also be customised by each individual user.
All Users
All users receive email notifications when someone in the community:
- Replies to or likes a comment they have made
- Replies to or likes a post they have made
- Creates a blog post on a blog they are subscribed to
- Posts an announcement in a course they are enrolled in
- Tags them in a comment
Facilitators
Provided that notify all of the facilitators of all comments in their class has been ticked, facilitators will receive OpenLearning platform notifications:
- when someone replies to or likes a comment they have made
- when someone replies to or likes a post they have made
- about all shares or comments made within a group they are part of (this does not include pages posted in the group)
Learners
Learners will receive OpenLearning platform notifications when:
-
someone replies to or likes a comment they have made
- someone replies to or likes a post they have made
- someone shares or comments within a group they are part of (this does not include pages posted in the group)
- someone posts or comments on a page they’ve subscribed to
- someone comments on their assessment evaluations (only if they have been released)
- they are awarded a badge
Course Admins
Course admins will receive OpenLearning platform notifications when:
- someone replies to or likes a comment they have made
- someone replies to or likes a post they have made
- someone shares or comments within a group they are part of (this does not include pages posted in the group)
- someone posts or comments on a page they’ve subscribed to
An alternative way of keeping up with the course
Another way you can keep up to date on the happenings within the course is by going to the Course Feed. This is permission-based, which means you can also see activity within groups you are a part of as well. You can also subscribe to this page to receive updates.
