How do email and platform notifications work?


Notifications are used to let users know when an activity has taken place in their OpenLearning communities. 

There are a few notification types that you can choose from when you are customising course notification settings and/or personal notification settings.

As a course administrator, you will be able to customise which notification types to send to members of the course for various course activities and actions. Learn more about customising course notification settings. 

As a user (regardless of your role), you will also be able to customise how you want to receive notifications for course social activities related to you.  Learn more about customising personal notification settings. 

Platform notifications will appear in the little bell icon (馃敂) next to your profile picture in the OpenLearning topbar.

  

You can also look at all your notifications and filter or preview them in full by clicking on View all notifications. 

   

 

Immediate email notifications are individual notices that are sent immediately to the email address associated with the user's OpenLearning account when there's a new activity.

A weekly digest is a course-specific weekly email to learners that show them where they have left off in the course and what pages are next. This is a useful tool for keeping learners informed and engaged in the course.

    If you are subscribed to the Course Feed, what updates do you receive and how frequent are they? 
    We assume you get an email, but is that an email you get once a day with a feed of everything that has appeared in the course for that day? Is that is the case, what time is that email set to send to the subscribers?

    How do you get rid of these notifications? I have nothing ticked to be notified about and I still get an email almost every day, which is really annoying. I would like to fully unsubscribe which doesn't appear to be an option and I believe this breaks the Privacy laws. I have already sent an email to ask to be unsubscribed with, ironically, no response.

      Do you mind sharing the address you sent an email to and received no response?
      We haven't received anything from you to support@openlearning.com which is the inbox that is monitored 24/7.

      To stop absolutely all notifications, you need to Mute the class. 

      Head over to Manage notifications > Mute class, and toggle the classes you want to mute to ON.
