How do I assess learners?

Before assessing learners, please make sure the following has been done:

The assessment process depends on the type of assessment you have set up.

The assessment process for this is automatic.

Go to Assessment > Assess learners.

You will now be able to see the learner's scores.

Quizzes will be automatically marked upon submission. The results will show on the Assess Learners page almost immediately.

If the assessor wishes to rescore the quiz, they can still manually do so by clicking on the drop-down arrow next to the title of the quiz, then select Rescore the quiz

If assessors need to check corrections or hold off on releasing quiz results for a learner, they can also manually Retract all results from the same section.

Click on Release to make the results available to the learner.

Note that: If a quiz has multiple attempts, and the assessor has already released the results, and the learner attempts the quiz for the 2nd time:

  • The score of the 2nd attempt will be reflected immediately in Assess Learners

Learn about how learners see the results from their end.

Please follow the instructions here.

You can assess learners from the Assess Learners page located under Assessment in the sidebar.

On this page, you will see a table of all your learners, organised by reports

Each entry shows how much of that learner's report has been graded. Select one of the entries to begin the assessment.

Inside there will be a list of criteria.

When you click on criteria, it will expand to give you details on what and how to evaluate.

This should include evidence of learning which is represented by a tagged collection of learner work. If no learner work appears, check that the related activities have been tagged correctly. Learn more about outcome tags.

If a due date for the task was set up, and a learner submitted it late, this will be marked like this:

The assessor has the option to waive the overdue status:

... and/or perhaps adjust the score due to lateness:

As you evaluate each criteria, the total score at the bottom of the page will be adjusted to reflect the changes.

Below the total score is a comment box where assessors can include qualitative feedback.

Once an assessor has finished evaluating the desired learner(s), they can release the results via the Release button on the learners' list.

Results can be released immediately. There are also options for releasing each learner report manually.

When you release a report, the report results become accessible to the learner. The learner will receive a notification that their results are available. They can then access their report results from the notification or their progress page.

Go to Assessment > Assess students and click on the Export button above "Student Reports".

Choose your export format. We recommend "Summary of results" for the simplest export format. Click OK.

You can also export in "Raw scores" if you wish to further scale and manipulate scores outside the platform.

Using a "Raw scores" format also allows you to import adjusted scores from outside the platform.

Note: Should a learner lose internet connection during an exam, OpenLearning has prepared some tips for them to follow here. We advise assessors to ask the learners to provide evidence of their submissions (such as a screenshot or a file). It is up to the course staff to determine whether they allow upload/re-submit and re-assess the exam.

Follow the instructions for How do I export assessment results. Make sure you export a "Raw scores" format.

Edit the file you have downloaded. Save.

Upload the file by clicking the Import button.

Locate the file on your computer or drag the file and click the Import button.

You can only import from a "Raw scores" format.

The file is successfully imported and the updated assessment results are visible in the chart.

Before assessing learners, please make sure the following has been done:

  • Set up the correct permissions in roles. Learn more about roles.
  • The tasks you would like to assess have been tagged. Learn more about tagging.
  • An assessment report has been created. Learn more about assessment reports.
  • The learners have completed/submitted their work.
  • Please make sure that you are able to see the Assessment tab in your course’s sidebar. The Assessment tab will appear to a Course Admin, Assessor and Assessment Designer

Note - If you cannot see this Gradebook within your course, it is because it is currently only available to pilot users.

Hi....for the group work, how do we assess the group work by assessing ONLY ONCE? and the marks are all goes the same to the other group member? Perhaps just give marks to the admin of the group only and the same marks will appear to all its respective members.

If not, I have to do marking for every individual student (like doing the marking for the individual task) and its really kill my time to do the assessment. Thank you.

adiirfan Hi there! Any group assignment submitted by one member of the group counts towards all the other members of that group. So you only have to grade the one assignment.

Omnaya Omar Many thanks for the reply. I have set the task as group task. But when come to assessment, I have to do it for individual student. "Any group assignment submitted by one member of the group counts towards all the other members of that group" - it works for some group, and some group not works; I have no idea why this is occurred, since the student give this feedback to me.

When I give marks to the group task in one particular student, the marks given doesn't reflect to the other group member screen.

In doing marking, I click menu like this flow i.e. Assessment-Asess Students-Student name. When I mark the group task, it only reflect for that particular student, not the whole group member. I have set for all students "Assess Me" button.

Kindly advise the specific steps to do this.

adiirfan Hi there, can you check this article and see if you have set up the task correctly? https://help.openlearning.com/t/k9gs98/how-do-i-set-up-group-submissions (Step 4)

If it does not work, please post (or send to us by email at support@openlearning.com) the link to the page with the task so we can take a closer look.

      Thanks!

Alenka Prezelj Many thanks, Indeed I have set up the task correctly since the very beginning, as per the image below.

      Link to the page: https://www.openlearning.com/courses/motorcycle-convoy/tips_from_others/

But the marking still goes to the individual students.

In the screen "Assess Students", I have marks 1 student named Muhammad Shafeeq (1/8 criteria graded; this is group task), but you can see the other member still 0/8 criteria graded.

      Kindly advise.

adiirfan  Hi there! After much discussion and investigation, I'm afraid I have to report that we don't have the functionality to assess as a group. The (manual) workaround is if the assessor has a list of groups and members, takes down a note of the group mark and searches for the other team members to allocate the same mark. We apologise for the inconvenience!
Would you mind posting about this feature on our Suggest a feature page? We really appreciate it!

Alenka Prezelj Okay noted with many thanks. It is still a manual way. It's okay then will suggest this feature to be developed by your dedicated team.
