How do I add a video call option to my course?

Video chat is a great way to engage with your learners. Currently, OpenLearning offers video conference integrations for Zoom and MS Teams users.

Institution administrators have the option to integrate Zoom within the institution portal which enables course administrators to create video calls directly within their course pages.

To learn how to integrate Zoom within your course, please refer to the following help article: Zoom (LTI tool provider setup)

A significant number of universities, colleges, and organisations are already using the Microsoft Teams application for collaborative purposes, and so OpenLearning has released the Microsoft Teams Meeting widget which allows educators to engage with their learners in live audio/video meetings via the Microsoft Teams application.

This widget enables the course creators/administrators, facilitators, and learners with an active Microsoft Teams license, to schedule live audio/video meetings. It also enables learners themselves to participate in multimedia equipped meetings with fellow learners from within an OpenLearning course. You can learn all about the MS Teams Meeting widget in the following help article.

If you don't want to set up an integration, you can always just create the meetings off the platform and share the link via the Text widget.

As a course administrator, you can embed a link to a video conference (such as Zoom, Hangouts, Webex etc) onto a course page by using the Text widget. The learners will click on the video conference link, and then log in or create an account separately from their OpenLearning account.

Announcements page: Share a link to your video conference within an announcement that is sent out to the class. You can learn more about announcements in the following help article.

Pro Tip: Make sure to let the learners know what time (and timezone) the meeting will take place. When the time comes, learners can simply click the link you've shared and join the call!
