How do I set up and edit classes?
What is a Class?
A class refers to a cohort of learners that go through a course together.
All learner-generated content such as comments, posts, and group pages are only visible inside the class where they were generated.
For example, learners in Class of 2022 cannot see any of the comments or posts from learners in Class of 2023.
Note that the course content, such as the modules and course pages, is shared across classes. This means when you make changes to the course content the changes will be visible to all classes.
How to create a new class
To create a new class:
Step 1
Go to Course Setup > General and scroll down to the Classes section.
Step 2
Click Create a New Class.
Step 3a (Create new class)
- Input the Class Name
- Select Enrolment Type
- Select Enrolment Cost options
- Input a value under Learner Enrolment Numbers or leave it blank (the value will be set to Unlimited).
Step 3b (Copy existing class settings)
You can now copy the assessment reports and pre-enrolment questions from existing classes to a new one.
Enter the class name and configure the settings as below:
- On the Quick creation option, tick the box Use settings from another class.
- Select the class from the drop-down menu.
- Tick the relevant checkbox if you would like to copy these as well over to the new class.
- Include all assessment reports from selected class

Step 4
Click Create.
For more class settings and administrative options, click on the class name in the table.
Note:
- You should only create an additional class if it is needed. If you only need one class with a specific name or settings, you can edit the existing class.
Some use cases for multiple classes are:
- paid classes with various currencies
- classes with different start dates
- classes with learners from different organisations.
- Please make sure that multiple public classes are named correctly so as not to confuse learners when joining the course from the landing page, e.g the name could reflect the start date, semester, etc.
How to edit an existing class
Step 1
Go to Course Setup > General and scroll down to the Classes section.
Step 2
Click Edit.
This will bring up the edit modal where you can change your class settings.
How to switch between classes
If you are running a course with several classes, you might need to switch from one class to another to check on your learners, post some feedback, etc. Here's how to do that:
Option 1
- Directly below the course banner, find your profile picture, role, and class.
- Click on the current class name
- Click on the class you want to access via the dropdown menu.
- If you don't see the drop-down, add yourself to all classes in Course setup > Roles.
Option 2
- Go to Course Setup > Classes
- Click on the class name of the class you would like to access.
How to delete a class
Please note only classes with no learners can be deleted. To remove learners, go to Administer learners > Learners.
If you'd like to delete the Featured class, you'll need to make another class Featured first.
Step 1
To delete a class, go to Course setup > Classes.
Step 2
Scroll to the right to click on the Delete button for the class you'd like to delete.
Once you delete a class, you will not be able to retrieve it or any of the class data.

Any learner can join this class through the course landing page. With the latest update, multiple public classes can now be set up and open for enrolment at a time.
By default, each course comes with a featured (=default) public class. You can edit this class, and create as many other public and private classes as you need.
Note: The status of the featured public class will be displayed on the course tile if the course is listed in the OpenLearning marketplace.
Private: Access Code
Only learners with an access code can join through the course landing page.
You need to distribute the code to learners.
Private: Manual Enrolment
The course administrator or facilitator must enrol learners via their email addresses or username, and only these enrolled learners can access the course.
