Short answer widget - confusing name?

Hey,

this is just a random observation.

I think the name of "Short answer" widget often misleads course creators in thinking they should use this when they want students to write a short text. E.g. What is your opinion on xy? (expecting a few sentences on something)

This happens very often causing confusion among students (who are unable to then get the answer "right" or teachers who can't find students' answers anywhere.)

    Hi Alenka,

I agree this can be confusing, that is, sometimes it's not obvious that we are expecting a short answer because the input box is so big.

An option to have a short input box was recently added to this widget.

Sometimes when we ask a question with a short and simple answer such as questions with a numerical answer, the big text box makes it seem like we are expecting a long paragraph answer.

Now we can change the size of the input box accordingly.

Yeah, this will work IF the course creators get the idea of "size of input". Please keep in mind that the issue is that the creators who use the wrong widget.

We are still getting emails from confused course creators who have used Short answer widget instead of Post text. Please consider using a different name for the "Short answer widget". Thank you!
