How do I switch from a monthly to a yearly subscription (or vice versa)?


A subscription owner with an active subscription has the option to switch their billing cycle from monthly to yearly and vice versa depending on the plan they are on: 

The Personal plan (discontinued) subscribers (Stripe) can no longer switch billing cycles, but instead, they can update to one of the current plans under any billing cycle.

Starter, Institution plans (Australian/International) and *Growth, *Pro and Institution plans (Malaysia/Indonesia) can switch billing cycles at any time.

*Growth and Pro plans are no longer available for new clients.


If you have an active subscription to any plan under the monthly or yearly billing cycle and want to switch over to the other, the amount you'll be required to pay will be prorated based on the number of days (monthly cycle) or the number of months (yearly cycle) left in your current subscription.

The unused period from the current billing cycle will be converted to prorated credits, which will then be used to cover a part of the new cycle’s prorated charge that’s based on the date when the switch is initiated. If switching from yearly to monthly, the prorated credits will be used to pay the succeeding subscription fees until the credits are depleted.

The rest of the amount due (if subscribing to a larger plan) will be paid using your nominated payment method.

As above, the unused days from the current monthly billing cycle will be converted to prorated credits, which will then be used to pay for/cover a part of the new plan's prorated charge on the day the switch is initiated.

The rest of the amount due will be paid using your nominated payment method.

Example:

A subscription owner who is currently subscribed to the OpenLearning Institution Plan Level 1 under the monthly billing cycle, is looking to switch over to the OpenLearning Institution Plan Level 1 yearly billing cycle.

After clicking on Yearly, and then clicking on Continue, the subscription owner will see two amounts:

 

The first amount is the amount that is going to be paid for when the subscription under the new billing cycle is renewed, which is a full year from the date of the initial switch to the new billing cycle.

  

The second amount is the exact amount due on the date of the switch to the new billing cycle.

The amount due covers the current date to the expiration date of the new billing cycle.

 

Click on View details to see a breakdown of the "Amount due today".

 

Note: The pro-rated are already deducted from the "Amount due today".


If you have an active Starter plan subscription, please follow the steps below:

Click on your profile icon (top-right corner of the page) and then click on Manage subscriptions.

Click on Change Plan.

Click on Update plan.

Just beneath Plans Available, click to select your preferred billing cycle.

 

Click on Continue.

Click on the Confirm button to complete switching your billing cycle.


If you have an active Institution plan subscription, please follow the steps below:

Click on your profile icon at the top-right corner of the page and click on Manage subscriptions.

Click on Change Plan.

Click on Update plan.

Under the Plans Available list, click on Yearly or Monthly, depending on your preferred billing cycle.

Click on Continue.

Click on the Confirm button to complete switching your billing cycle.


If you have an active Growth or Pro plan subscription, please follow the steps below:

Click on your profile icon at the top-right corner of the page and click on Manage subscriptions.

Click on Change Plan.

Click on Update plan.

Under the Plans Available list, click on Yearly or Monthly, depending on your preferred billing cycle.

Click on Continue.

Click on the Confirm button to complete switching your billing cycle.


If you have an active Institution plan subscription, please follow the steps below:

Click on your profile icon at the top-right corner of the page and click on Manage subscriptions.

Click on Change Plan.

Click on Update plan.

Under the Plans Available list, click on Yearly or Monthly, depending on your preferred billing cycle.

Click on Continue.

Click on the Confirm button to complete switching your billing cycle.
